Not something you would normally expect at a national park, but Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has an Art Center. They usually have a special exhibit every month, along with their regular displaying artists. But in addition, they have programs for the public: cultural, artistic, and educational. For many of these, your entrance fee into the park covers it. They also have the Niaulani “campus”, in Volcano Village, outside the park with other activities, including classes, concerts, and even yoga and meditation sessions. If you are an art aficionado or just enjoy good art, these are two places to check out on their website. They post a calendar with the monthly events, and some may fit into your schedule, especially if you are hanging around waiting to see the “glow” in the park at night, which many of our B&B guests do.
And you may continue the artistic journey at the Leilani Bed and Breakfast . Here we have a gallery of Lynn’s paintings for you to browse and enjoy. The piece shown is “Place of Refuge II”. And we supply practicing artists with a “package” in their medium to go out and paint themselves, with a list of Lynn’s favorite places. No need to lug any supplies with you and we provide a mailing package for your finished piece, even if it is still wet.
These are two of the great art opportunities in Hawaii. So have fun nurturing your artistic self on your vacation!
