Serving Local Hawaiian Fruits

Early on, we decided to serve local Hawaiian fruits for our continental breakfasts at Leilani Bed and Breakfast. We wanted to be sustainable and help our local farmers to thrive. What we didn’t realize at the time is how much our guests would love the fare. People from all over the world marvel at the vibrant taste of our fruits. Even if they can get the same fruits at home, they say that ours taste so much better. It makes sense, that they are so fresh, picked weekly and available at the local farmer’s market. Our guests from Germany are the biggest fans of our local Hawaiian fruits. The fruit platter is usually picked clean by the end of breakfast when they are here. They love the variety and juiciness. One guest from China was particularly amazed with our pink guava. She said they have most of the same fruits in China, but they don’t taste anything like ours. She said they travel so far to get to Beijing. But she had only seen white guava and requested we put a picture of pink guava on the website for others from her homeland to see. So here it is. Thank you for your suggestion, Li.

Our fruit platter is the center of our generous continental breakfast laid out for our guests each morning. For me, it is a labor of love to arrange the fruit. As an artist, I see the platter as a blank canvas, and start a fruit composition, mixing colors, shapes and sizes. It is the most photographed aspect of our bed and breakfast!

If you are looking for a place to stay on the Big Island of Hawaii with healthy options for breakfast, then you have found the place. Also, you can specify special dietary needs, and we can usually accommodate you within our continental offerings. Just let us know at time of reservation.
